Why did the Bishop at church tonight say, "We all know the best Catholics sit in the last pew?"?
It was a standing-room-only service but he was referring to some seats up front that were available.
Yeah, a name like Eddie Cacciatore is not Catholic (sarcasm).
He might have meant that they are more meek and humble, and not attention seeking, but he was probably kidding. Sometimes people tend to want to sit in the back because it's closer to the door so they can get out quicker. Also, psychologically speaking, it may be a holdover from school, where they had a fear of being called upon. They want to create more distance and be unnoticed. I'd say the Bishop has a good sense of humor.
From personal experience, I've noticed my dad likes to sit about 4 or 5 pews from the front, and when I go to church, I like to sit closer to the back. It's not because I want a quick escape, but it's just the way I am.
