Why does Superman and Captain Marvel fight?
Superman is a superhero...that's for sure...
And to my knowledge, Captain Marvel's a super hero too..
Why do they fight though? They were presented as adversaries in comics before.
The same reason they do any cross over in comics or a Guest star on TV, ... Ratings/Sales
due the sheer power of Comic book stars, whether alien, mutant or radiation in origin, its natural to see "Who's Stronger?" (just look at the volume of Questions in Y!A about who'd win in a fight)
since all heroes are on the same side, they story is often set up that one, the other, or both, have been tricked/manipulated to believe the other is dangerous, or they have differing opinions on what Justice means, and who deserves to be punished and how.
between misinformation, and different viewpoints its rather easy to pit two super beings against one another for an exciting story arc.
In Shazam v. Superman, it is Capt. Marvel's youthful alter ego that sets him up to be most easily tricked. but the Boy Scout has often found himself pawn to many a mental manipulator
