£50,000 is being used to restore some graves of the ANIMALS that helped Britain in WW2. Whaddya reckon?
From today's metro...
The graves of Mary the carrier pigeon and other animal war heroes are to be restored with a £50,000 lottery grant.
The funds have been handed to animal charity PDSA so it can clean up one of its pet cemeteries.
The graveyard serves as a memorial to animals such as Mary – a pigeon that carried top-secret messages between France and England during World War II...
A lottery spokesman said: 'The PDSA's project won the hearts and minds of people across the region, with a pitch to repair and restore the pet cemetery.'
I kind of think this is a ridiculous waste of cash, but please feel free to persuade me otherwise!
I can understand the sentiments of your question and sympathise with your concerns. Surely there would be enough animal lovers out there who would gladly offer their services and resources to restore the graves you mention.
I guess political correctness has crept into the psyche of the people running the charity you mention.
For an organisation that relies on charity surely £50,000 could be better spent.
