Kills Marvel Universe
Help me to get into comic books?
Well, I've always liked graphic novels, but never read them as a hobby. However, I've recently become interested in getting into and reading them. I have read a couple trade paperbacks so far, being Y: The Last Man, Superman Birthright, and I Kill Giants. I don't have trouble with the independent storylines, like I Kill Giants, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to start with the DC and Marvel universes. I don't have any preferences right now as to what superheroes I would like to read up on, but I really don't even know where to start if I chose, say, Superman. The first comics are pretty much ancient, and not very interesting. Can any comic fans help me out?
There's Watchmen, which is just a single volume series by DC that's been very popular the past few years. It's won tons of awards and a movie was made about it.
I think checking out a local comic store and looking at different series is the best way to go. Something like a mini series based off a popular character.
I would personally recommend something like Ultimate X-Men or Astonishing X-Men. Both are easy to get into, and previous comics are not needed.
There's also Ultimate Spiderman.
And the Civil War series is becoming popular. It takes place in the Marvel universe and includes all the superheroes. The main idea is the governement wants Superheros to register (thus revealing their secret identities) after a few newbie heroes blow up a school full of kids during a fight on live TV. Half the heroes think this is a good idea, and they are led by Ironman. The other heroes think this is not a good idea, and are led by Captain America. It's an all out civil war between the superheros.
