What will Marvel do with the Punisher 20 years in the future?
Think about it, in the Marvel continuity, the Punisher has aged in real time from his experiences in Vietnam to a man in his 50s-60s. What will Marvel do 20 years from now when most Vietnam veterans are old?
Marvel has this thing called the shifting timeline.
It is where the ret-con their character's continuity to make them fit the current time. Two examples of this:
Originally Ben Grimm aka The Thing of the Fantastic Four was a pilot in WWII. A couple of years ago in a comic he said that the idea of him flying in WWII was stupid because he would be too old.
Another is The Avengers. The Avengers were formed in the 1960s when they were first published. However in the Captain America: Rebirth storyline Tony Stark paid to have Captain America's original Avengers ID card from an auction. The card was signed by President Bill Clinton.
Similarly story-arcs and events that take years to publish in real life only occur within a few months or weeks in the Comic world. The Civil War and Cap's death occurred in 2006-2007. And yet in the recent Rebirth comic they are only celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Cap's death.
Point is I'm sure they will think of something, maybe have him be a Desert Storm Vet instead of a Vietnam Vet.
