whats the difference between the amazing spiderman and the spectacular spiderman?
i believe both are very popular but why would marvel make 2 when they're very similar
what are the differences?
N/A's answer covers some of it. But the most prevalent reason, as can be seen with the other true successes in comics history like Superman, Batman, The X-men, etc......it comes down to money. DC and Marvel have always had a way of milking their successes. The names I listed are examples because they are the most popular character's in the overall history of comics and they all have multiple titles. When one of the big two, Marvel or DC, hits it big, they've traditionally put more writers on additional monthly books because there's a market for them. When people fall in love with a character, and I mean they're rabid for them, they want to read as much as they can. And more monthly titles translates into more $$$$$$$, if you get my drift. It's no secret in the industry. I've read it commented on a number of times and heard it in a few interviews (sorry, I can't remember sources, but that's the way it goes I guess).
There are no real differences other than writers, artists and separate but parallel running story lines (which is everything of course). And often, this format of multiple titles gives the character's editor, each of the industry's major characters has its own editor these days, the opportunity to tell a story within multiple issues in a single month, giving also the reader more material to read and hopefully enjoy over the coordinated unfolding of the story in a shorter period of time.
