Is Marvel unintentionally devaluing their comic books?
They've gotten rid of a lot of their top-notched artists. They're printing and reprinting a lot of their comic books nowadays. In addition, they just started this new digital/online comic book campaign. Will doing all this devalue the comic books they're selling today?
Marvel doesn't concern itself with the value of it's older issues. They make no money when people sell the issues between each other after they buy it from Marvel in the first place.
But the answer is no. Old comics which are rare will always be rare. People want Amazing Spider-Man #1 no matter how many times it's been reprinted. The value of those older, truly rare comics goes up every year without fail. The value of modern comics will go down regardless of whether or not they're reprinted, because value in older comics comes from rarity, and there's nothing rare about modern comics with print runs in the tens or hundreds of thousands when everyone buying them keeps them. The old comics are rare and collectable because people didn't use to keep them around, they threw them away.
