What is the best men's complete golf club set for someone just starting out around $150?
Without question, look at the Top Flite XL set, which can be had for $199 at many places. Top Flite is owned by Callaway, by the way, the "number one club on tour" etc.
If you don't believe me, read the reviews on this set anywhere and you should be convinced. It comes down to this: you can pay for the Lexus ES, ot the Toyota Camry, same car, one has a few more bells and whistles and costs significantly more.
Callaway is just segmenting the market. They realize that not everyone will pay $800 for a set of irons. But they can't tarnish the Callaway name by selling a "cheap" set, so they sell clubs under the Top Flite banner.
However, if you must have Callaway, the best way to buy them is through the Callaway "pre-owned" site which actually has some pretty good deals.
As for me, I've been playing many years and am going for the Top Flite set, I've heard nothing bur rave reviews. And for $200 for the entire set including a bag, it's a no brainer.
