Can childhood drug use (acid, alcohol, opium, etc.) cause a theme of sporadic vertigo in adulthood?
From ages 11-14 I was drinking heavily, taking acid sporadically, smoked opium, took a lot of prescription pills, etc. and ten years later at age 24, i am wondering if BPPV, vestibular migraine vertigo or other forms of vertigo can be an effect of early drug use.
my symptoms consist of inconsistent dizzy/ vertigo spells every few months lasting up to 24 hours, and easily induced motion sickness.
I doubt it.
Vertigo usually occurs when there's a problem with the inner ear balance mechanisms, or with the brain, or with the nerve connections between the brain and the middle ear.
Possible causes of vertigo include...
An inflammation called labrinthitis, caused either by a viral upper respiratory infection, or secondary to an acute middle ear infection.
Benign positional vertigo - tends to affect older people and any sudden movement of the head (usually head turning) can bring on an acute attack without warning.
Specialist physiotherapy can benefit some people if the symptoms persist.
Ménière's disease, a more disabling condition caused by problems affecting the inner ear.
Recreational drugs and alcohol can cause vertigo, but don't usually have a lasting effect. You only used them for 3 years,many people use more stuff for much longer without long term effects once they stop taking it/them.
I get vertigo and haven't taken drugs or over indulged in alcohol. It just IS.
Forget the drugs and drink and consider seeing an ENT specialist.
