Which recent DC TPB should I buy to get into DC?
I've pretty much avoided DC beyond the excellent Batman trades out there (By miller and friends). I liked them so much that I was wondering what others are worth picking up. Excellent story and excellent art. I also really loved all star Superman.
It truly depends on what characters you're interested in. Interested in Wonder Woman? I'd suggest Who is Wonder Woman? by Allen Heinberg and Terry Dodson, and the Gail Simone Wonder Woman trades (The Circle, Ends of the Earth, and Rise of the Olympian - Ignore Love and Murder, it's not worth reading). Interested in Batman, beyond Frank Miller's work? Try Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's amazing The Long Halloween, or Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush. There are also some nice trades of Grant Morrison's recent run on Batman (Batman and Son, The Black Glove, Batman R.I.P.). Interested in seeing how the super hero community interacts in groups? Check out the Justice League of America and Justice Society of America trades.
I highly, HIGHLY suggest 52. It's a phenomenal read focusing on the heroes of the DC Universe during a year in which Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman were no longer around. Though, to grasp it, you may need to read Infinite Crisis before hand (but you could probably just wiki it).
I also suggest Catwoman: When in Rome by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, Green Lantern: Rebirth (a must read if you want to get into the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night events).
Honestly, it all depends on what characters you're interested in and what kind of stories you like.
